1,000 Island Salad Dressing

Updated: Sep 9, 2025

Back in the 70s and 80s, "Thousand Island" dressing was all the rage. I recall making it at the restaurant where I worked. We made gallons of it every week and served it with most of the salads that were ordered.

Salad dressings have come a long way in the past 50-plus years.

Here's to a classic favorite.

Ingredients:

1 cup mayonnaise

1/4 cup ketchup

1/4 cup sweet pickle relish

1 tablespoon white vinegar

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Directions:

Add all the ingredients to a bowl. Use a spatula and mix well to incorporate.

Pour into an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to two weeks. You can cut this recipe in half if needed.

*Half the recipe will yield 1/2 pint of dressing.
