Biscuits & Sausage Gravy

I think "comfort food" was defined with biscuits and gravy. I guess because of my southern heritage, I just always ate biscuits & gravy. It was a staple in my life forever.

In my opinion, biscuits and gravy perfectly define "comfort food." Perhaps due to my Southern roots, I've always had biscuits and gravy. It's been a constant presence in my life.

Many people hesitate to make sausage gravy, believing it's challenging, but I assure you, I'll show you the simplest method, and it will be delicious.

Ingredients for the biscuits:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold, cubed)

3/4 cup whole milk

Ingredients for the gravy:

Jimmy Dean "regular" sausage

1/4 cup of all-purpose flour

2 cups of milk

2 tablespoons butter

Salt and pepper to taste.

To make the biscuits:

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

Add cold butter cubes and blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Gradually stir in milk until just combined; avoid overmixing.

Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 5-6 times.

Roll out to ¾ inch thick, cut into shapes, and place on the baking sheet.

Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown on top.

To make the gravy:

Crumble the sausage in the fry pan (this is 1/2 pound for 2 people)

Cook on medium heat until it is browned and fully cooked.

Incorporate 2 tablespoons of butter and melt it, stirring to mix well. Dust the flour over the sausage and stir thoroughly to coat the sausage evenly, ensuring no liquid is left. Cook on low heat for 2-3 minutes. Slowly add the milk, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Season with the salt and pepper.

Continue cooking on medium heat, stirring occasionally until you achieve the desired consistency.

Serve over the warm biscuits and enjoy.
