Itch Relief Essential Oil Rollerball Recipe

Updated: Sep 9

I was talking with my best friend on the phone one night, and she had mentioned to me that the night before, the top of her foot started itching, for no apparent reason. She didn't get bitten by a bug, and she didn't change her soaps or detergents. Neither of us could figure out why this happened to her. Well, sadly enough, it started to happen to me shortly after that conversation. I thought, well, it has to be dry skin, so I applied some lotion, nope, that didn't help. I had an over-the-counter anti-itch spray so I used that. It was oily and messy, didn't dry very quickly, and was not an ideal solution.

Here is a recipe an essential oil recipe I found, and it works for me. Hopefully, if you need some itch relief and try this, it will help.

ree

Ingredients:

6 drops Lavender essential oil (soothes irritation, reduces itching, and has antiseptic properties)

4 drops Tea Tree essential oil (antimicrobial, helps prevent infection, and relieves itch)

4 drops Peppermint essential oil (provides cooling relief and reduces discomfort)

Carrier oil (e.g., jojoba oil or fractionated coconut oil) to fill the 10ml bottle

10ml glass roller bottle (amber or dark glass to protect oils)

Instructions:

Prepare the Bottle: Ensure the roller bottle is clean and dry. Sterilize by boiling for 5 minutes and letting it dry completely to prevent contamination.

Add Essential Oils: Add 6 drops of lavender, 4 drops of tea tree, and 4 drops of peppermint to the roller bottle using a dropper or directly from the oil bottles.

Fill with Carrier Oil: Top off the bottle with jojoba or fractionated coconut oil, leaving a small space at the top for the rollerball. Jojoba is nourishing and absorbs quickly, while fractionated coconut oil is odorless and lightweight.

Secure and Mix: Insert the rollerball top and screw on the cap. Gently shake to blend the oils.

Label: Label the bottle (e.g., “Anti-Itch Blend”) for easy identification.

Patch Test: Apply a small amount to your inner forearm and wait 24 hours to ensure no skin sensitivity.

Usage:

Application: Roll directly onto the itchy area (e.g., bug bites, eczema, or rashes). Rub in gently if needed. Reapply up to 3 times daily as needed.

Pulse Points: For added aromatherapy benefits, apply to wrists or behind ears and inhale deeply.

Cleaning Tip: To keep the rollerball clean, apply the blend to clean fingers and then to the skin, or wipe the rollerball with a cloth after use.

Safety Notes:

Dilution: This recipe uses a 3% dilution (14 drops total in 10ml), safe for adults for short-term use. For children (ages 5+), reduce to 1% dilution (2 drops total, e.g., 1 drop lavender, 1 drop tea tree, omit peppermint).

Precautions: Avoid use on open wounds, eyes, or mucous membranes. Peppermint can be strong; avoid on sensitive skin or near the face, especially for kids. Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding without consulting a healthcare provider.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight to maintain oil potency.
