Craft Ribbon Holder

If you are anything like me and have been crafting for years, chances are you have a ton of crafting ribbon.

For a while, when I was paper crafting and making cards, adding a piece of ribbon was fun, so you needed ribbon for every holiday or life event, and let's not even talk about Christmas.

I have been thinking for a while now that I really need a better storage solution. Even though I have an entire room with a closet for storage, it can be tough to get organized and stay organized. I have always kept my ribbon in either a cardboard box with a closure or a plastic bin. It turns out I have probably close to a dozen different containers for my crafting ribbon.

This creates a few problems, such as space, visibility, and access. When you have several different containers, and they are not all see-through, it's easy to forget what you have or even which container a specific ribbon is in. I wish I could say that I was organized enough to have all of my pink ribbon or all of my Christmas ribbon together in one place, unfortunately, I think that will be a project for me when I retire.

Today, I decided to get out the glue gun and E6000 glue and see what I could come up with just using scraps from the garage and my craft closet.

From the garage, I brought in some scrap wood slats and paint stir sticks. From the craft closet, I pulled out some 12" wooden dowels and clothespins.

I started by measuring approximately 1 inch down from the end of both pieces of slat wood, this is where I would glue the first paint stick. The only reason to measure was to try to make the paint stick "level".

I used 3 paint sticks to attach the wood slats together. After placing the paint stir sticks on the back of the slats, I turned it over and placed clothespins on either side. Before I glued them down, I put a spool of ribbon on one of the wooden dowels to get an idea of how far down to place the next dowel.

The dowels are held in place with the clothespins.

To remove or replace the ribbon, you simply open the clothespin.

You can definitely make it prettier with some spray paint and even a different hanger. I just used a "pant" hanger so I can hang this ribbon holder in the closet.

I will be heading to the store at some point to get more wooden dowels to make at least one more hanger. The next one will be for the big spools of ribbon.

I hope this quick project will help inspire someone to get organized and get some crafting in as well.
