Quillo - "Quilt & Pillow"

We feel truly blessed to have a wonderful little girl in our lives who lovingly calls us "Nana & Papa". We affectionately refer to her as "Dandy", her unique nickname, and she knows exactly who gave her that special name when she hears it. This very special young lady recently turned 5.

She loves the cartoon "Lilo & Stitch," so I decided she should have a quillo featuring her favorite characters.

This doesn't follow a specific pattern; it began as a "Jelly Roll Race," but not quite. Essentially, it's just 2 1/2" fabric strips sewn together and then cut to length. The backing is a store-bought fleece blanket, and there's no batting. I wanted it to be a lightweight quilt, perfect for snuggling while watching TV or taking a nap.

The pillow is made from extra fabric and polyester batting.

All of the fabric, including the licensed fabric, was purchased at Walmart

I started with 1 yard of the licensed Lilo & Stich fabric, 1 yard of light blue, and then fat quarters for the purple, green, and blue patterned fabric. I cut the fabric into 2 1/2 inch wide strips, and they range from 20" to 24" long.

I started sewing them, end to end, keeping the colors in the same order.

I had to be careful to make sure the licensed fabric pattern was all going the same direction.

Once all the strips are sewn end to end, you measure and cut into 60" strips.

Now you start sewing your rows together

After sewing the strips together, I placed the "quilt top" face down on the right side of the fleece blanket that served as the backing.

ree

After sewing around the perimeter I turned the quilt right side out.

ree

I sewed a top-stitch all the way around the quilt, closing up the gap left to turn the quilt, nad sewed on the pocket.
