Simmering Potpourri

Updated: Sep 9

There is something special about the warm smell of cinnamon and apples, or pumpkin spice. It's a smell that we often associate with fall or even winter holidays.

What if I said you could enjoy this aroma all year long if you wanted?

Here is a simple, inexpensive way to recreate the smell of fall baking

Tools needed:

Small saucepan or mini crock pot

Ingredients:

Water

Cinnamon, cloves, allspice, nutmeg, pumpkin spice, or orange slices

Vanilla extract

Instructions:

In a mini crockpot or small saucepan, add 2 cups of water, 4 cinnamon sticks, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves. Stir well to combine, and bring to a simmer.

Keep an eye on your simmer pot so that it does not boil dry.

Don't be afraid to experiment with other spices to change up the fragrance. I like to do this after I have cooked something in a deep fryer to help with the "grease" smell.
